Burnout
Saying "I'm fine" and meaning something else entirely
Making a decision, then quietly checking it with five other people
Recognising your own handwriting on a page you don't remember writing
Grieving a version of your life that nobody else is grieving with you
Waking at 3am, running a meeting that doesn't exist yet
Being the person everyone else still leans on, while no one's noticed you've changed
Realising you're rebuilding your whole life from scratch, and nobody sent you the instructions
Crying in a car park for no reason you can explain
Saying yes out loud while your whole body is saying no
You begin questioning the choices that once felt automatic.
The job you would never have considered. The “no” you would once have swallowed. The life you’re beginning to imagine for yourself.
Some of it may feel like wearing someone else’s coat. That’s not failure. It’s information. You’re finding out what fits now.
Knowing what you want is one thing. Building your life around it is another.
This is the Tuesday stuff. The diary changes. The boundaries get tested. Different decisions have to become everyday decisions. There is admin, awkward conversations and plenty of moments where nobody is watching.
It isn't glamorous. It is how a new life gets built.
Then something changes. You stop trying to become the woman you imagined and start living as her.
Decisions that once required hours of thought become instinctive. You say no without constructing a defence.
You make choices without waiting for permission.
You stop measuring your life against someone else's expectations.
You have changed the way you think, choose and lead your life and eventually, it becomes so deeply yours that you wouldn't think of doing it any other way.
I know when to challenge you. I also know when to get out of the way and let you think. The point isn't to push you harder. It's to help you move forward with conviction.
I've lived the version of this where you keep going on the outside while something quietly comes apart on the inside. I know the exact exhaustion of not recognising yourself in the mirror. And I know that the right support at the right moment changes what happens next.
Softer doesn't mean slower, and it doesn't mean easier. It means the work holds, because nobody skipped the part that needed to be felt first.
